A day in the life of a residential letter carrier can get a bit lonely. During the week, kids are at school and parents are at work. I never really minded this aspect of my work day; as a matter of fact, I considered it one of the perks of my job. While the two-leggeds were away, the four-leggeds ruled. Dogs were usually quarantined in back yards. But cats? Well, you know you can’t really quarantine a cat.
It made my day to convince a skitterish cat—and darn few cats aren’t skitterish—to come to me rather than to dart under the bushes. On my frequent walks in my own neighborhood and into nearby downtown, I continue to hone my cat whispering skills. I’m sure observers think I’m the crazy cat lady, but frankly, I don’t care what anyone thinks.
