Each fall I spend a week in McCall, Idaho, a small mountain town north of Boise. It is a peaceful time, the lull between tourist seasons.
I spend the time reading, writing, visiting with friends, and driving or hiking around central Idaho with my camera. I love having the camera with me. It compels me to really see the world around me. The vistas are stunning. The vast open spaces lure me to explore. I feel like there is some magnetic force pulling me deeper into the landscape.
Smoke filled air over the Salmon River

Idaho is amazing all year! I drove to Boise last year and the drive along the river was crazy!

Ah, thanks, Lynz! Next time you’re on the way through, give me a head’s up. We can meet for coffee or whatever! It’s pretty as long as you don’t get here during a winter inversion or a summer fire season when the smoke gets trapped in the valley. That makes us all pretty crazy.

Thanks, Glenda. I remember that too. Somewhere I have some photos we took that time. I need to go dig them out.

Wonderful collection! The 2nd image with the dramatic sky and low horizon is my favorite.

Thank you, Denise. I buzzed over to your site and was astounded by the quality of your fall color images, so your praise really touches the mark for me. I kind of like that dramatic sky shot, too. 😉

Linda, your photos are stunning and your annual pilgrimage sounds awesome. I’ve always wanted to go away by myself, even for a long weekend, but it never happens. Would love to spend time in a beautiful place reading, writing and exploring. Good for the soul!

Thanks, Geralyn. You are always so kind. You know, I’ve been up here with and without friends and, like this time, with friends for part of the week and solo for the rest of the week. Honestly, I enjoy my solo time every bit as much as shared time. (Maybe more, though I hate to imply that my companions aren’t top notch…)
